A collective of women, united by their shared experiences of migration and faith, creating collaborative artworks with various public and private outcomes.
Meeting monthly in a house in East London, they begin each session by employing a methodology that attends to the holistic well-being of each individual and the group as a whole, aiming to foster a flow state conducive to creative expression. Each session revolves around a specific theme designed to spark dialogue and inspire related explorations in sound and movement. The culmination of each gathering is a shared meal.
The sessions may or may not lead to a final performance, depending on the group’s decisions. Previous works by the collective include radio programs, vinyl records, public performances, and large-scale textile artworks. Currently, the collective is developing a new performance centered on motherhood. As part of their research, they will visit The Royal Opera House with their children and grandchildren, where they will attend a bespoke performance and share excerpts of their work in progress.
A second trip to the seaside will include their children, grandchildren, and two dancers and choreographers, during which they will devise a new piece. This piece will incorporate elements such as fabric, spirals, shells, stones, and bodies of water, exploring patterns and constellations both in and out of frame—elements of wind, water, and earth.
These outings will culminate in two short films.
